Candidate Obama has seemingly perfected the art of " teflon " in this presidential campaign so far . He has squeezed though narrow openings at times he has seemed totally cornered . He has taken every shot the Clinton's and others have thrown at him and maintains his position at the top of the slag pile in the Dem Party. So how does he do it ? Allow me to offer some observations.
First and foremost , Mr.Obama enjoys an almost rapturous press at his disposal . I have never seen this type of fawning , almost worshipful press coverage in any of my 53 years on God's green earth . The worst offender in my opinion is fellow native Pennsylvanian Chris Matthews who acts like he is angling for Obama to ask him out on a Prom date . Gushy , smooshy press coverage can cover a multitude of sins and we see this truism nightly before our very eyes.
Second , he does show an ability to manipulate liberal white guilt without giving the appearance of being a Jesse Jackson type of "race hustler" . If he can withstand the Rev. Wright hit , he should now be considered impervious to racial questioning , at least by the mainstream press and most guilty white liberal voters .
Finally , I believe that he has learned an uncanny sort of political sagacity on the streets of Chicago with which he is able to hide his tough side. He gives the appearance of being a " lover" not a " fighter" . I think the opposite is true as Hillary Clinton is now discovering. Attack him at your own peril .
Will these factors be enough to carry him into the White House ? Although only time will tell , I will be offering a few ideas in future postings . I hope that some of you will join in the fracus .
